OCOTILLO GOLF CLUB One of the few, privately owned and managed golf clubs in the East Valley, Ocotillo Golf Club features 27 holes designed by golf course architect, Ted Robinson. The club is proud of the fact they have been able to maintain a consistency of management through the direction of general manager David Bogue and grounds superintendent, Bill Todd, onboard since the club opened in 1987. Todd Weiand serves as club golf pro. Ocotillo Golf Club is located in Chandler at 3751 S. Clubhouse Drive and also serves as the centerpiece to a master planned community - Ocotillo, located between Price and Dobson Roads. Over 90 acres of man-made lakes and ponds create nearly seven miles of shoreline on this desert golf course. All but three holes are edged or defined by water-- |
that borders or crosses the fairways and greens of the course. All this water has been known to attract countless numbers of waterfowl, including the Great Blue Heron, and has earned the course the prestigious designation as an Audubon Society Sanctuary in recognition of the club's sensitivity to caring for the natural environment. Ted Robinson's trademark is well defined at Ocotillo through water cascades and oasis-like fairways set amid rugged rocks and stately cactus. Three nine-hole layouts - Gold, White and Blue - are separated by subtle shifts in strategy offering diversity and challenges unlike any other golf course in the Valley. Unlike the target-landing greens of Red Mountain Ranch, Ocotillo offers ample landing areas and stunning greens framed by mature palm, pine and willow trees. The 118 sand bunkers keep you from getting too mesmerized by all this blue water and lush greenery. Golfers face the most water on the Blue nine, but the challenge. is countered by moderate-length holes. With longer par 4s and greater risk-reward factors, the White nine demands the most from each player. The Gold nine offers the least amount of water and provides a mix of the best qualities of the Blue and White courses. The rhythm and flow of any combination of the three courses make every hole a memorable experience, according to Weiand. If all this sounds too idyllic, gear up for #9 on the White course, a 471 yard, par- 4 where a heroic second shot must carry 200-plus yards over water. Hole #5 on the Gold is a 203 yard, par 3 that plays over water to a green protected by boulders, a waterfall and wood-lined bunker-,. A barely two-year old, award-winning, white limestone and polished timber detailed 28,000 square foot clubhouse provides player, and guests with signature lunch and dinner entrees ranging from a Jack Daniels hamburger to Chicken Cordon Bleu at Brians at Ocotillo, a well equipped golf shop deemed "The Best Place in Arizona to Buy Women's Golf Clothing" by the Arizona Republic, and The Pavilion, and outdoor meeting/gathering place for large groups and special events. Rates during the high season are $115 per 18-hole round. Call 917-6660 for tee times and reservations. |
